Life is still faster

I was on the bullet train from Kyoto to Hakone taking a moment to decompress. I organize student travel abroad, because I know the importance getting a kid out of their ten square mile radius. I had almost 60 students on this trip, split up into two groups. I was looking forward to this train ride. I had my AirPods in, and the song “Shadows Reflecting the Light” by World’s End Girlfriend came on. The scenery flying by and the music connected.  I filmed what I was seeing out the window, and the results were unexpected. While the scenery in the distance had moments to take in, the objects closer looked like cut out animation, not just a blur. Objects seemed to dance at times, and move in the opposite direction. I put the music to the video on my phone and added a title.

It became a metaphor to me. My son had just graduated high school and he was on the trip with me. It was as if he was a baby just moments ago, and now he’s a young adult. It was like looking out that window, how fast time had gone with fragments of memories dancing around.
